Franklin Adams Warren (1853 - 1935) & Alice Amelia Harrison (1865 - 1942)

Information I have:

• Franklin was born Feb 1853 in Union (Hamlin), Monroe, New York, son of Oliver Barton Warren and Dorcas Nesbitt
• In the 1880 census, he is a boarder in the home of Richard A. (R.A.) Johnson in Hutchinson County, Dakota Territory.
• He was one of the earliest settlers in Douglas County, Dakota Territory, purchasing a land grant of 160 acres near what is now Delmont.
• In March 1882 he married Alice Amelia Harrison, daughter of Franklin Lafayette Harrison and Minerva Ann Carsner in Hutchinson County, Dakota Territory.
• Alice was born 21 May 1865 in Iowa to Franklin Lafayette Harrison and Minerva Ann Carsner.
• They had five sons - Oliver Burton "Bert" (1883 - 1975), Harlie (1884 - 1960), Lloyd Lynn (1892 - 1985), Carl Eugene (1897 - 1969) and Elry Clifford (1904 - 1970).
• Homesteaded in Charles Mix County, South Dakota between 1896 and 1901; lived in Delmont, Douglas, South Dakota in 1910 and 1920 census enumerations and moved to Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota by 1930.
• Franklin died in 1935 and was buried in Delmont, Douglas, South Dakota.
• Alice died 6 Nov 1942 in Ortonville, Big Stone, Minnesota and was buried in Delmont, Douglas, South Dakota.

Information I'm seeking:

• Franklin's date of birth. The birth date of Feb 1853 was obtained from the 1900 census.
• Place and date of Franklin's death. I have not been able to locate him in the Minnesota, North Dakota, or South Dakota Death Indexes.
• Alice's place of birth. She may have been born in Floyd County, Iowa.
• Alice's whereabouts in 1880. I have not been able to locate her in the 1880 census.

There was no great land rush in those first two years of homesteading activity, largely because of the lack of a railroad which generated heavy traffic elsewhere in Dakota. It took an extra measure of hardiness to opt for Douglas County at that time. Still, Hubert Flaherty, R. W. Johnson and Frank Warren took claims near that of Jefferson Manbeck, who, incidentally, provided over-night quarters for others inspecting the land for potential farm sites.
