Genealogical Brick Wall
Simeon Raymond Jones Benedict (1815 - 1860) & Eliza J. Robinson (1815 - 1892)
Information I have:
- Simeon was born 26 Sep 1814, in New York, Connecticut or Massachusetts.
- Eliza was born about 1815 in Maine (based on census records and obituary).
- Married on 5 Apr 1836, possibly in Canandiagua, Ontario, New York.
- Appeared in Kirtland, Lake, Ohio in the 1850 census.
- Appeared in Canandaigua, Ontario, New York in the 1855 New York state census.
- Appeared in Gorham, Ontario, New York in the 1860 census. Although Simeon died before the census was enumerated (12 June 1860), he is listed.
- The family appears to have made their way back to Lake County, Ohio by the mid-1860s as three daughters married in Lake County, Ohio by 1870. Charlotte to Preserved Sweet in March 1866, Lorinda to Smith LaMunyan in December 1866, and Julia to John H. Smith in November 1869.
- Eliza is listed twice in 1870 Census, once with Charlotte Elizabeth Benedict Mitchell Sweet in Rome, Ashtabula, Ohio and then with Lorinda Maria Benedict LaMunyan in Mentor, Lake, Ohio.
- Eliza married Samuel Bandle 25 July 1875 in Lake County, Ohio and appeared with him in 1880 Census in Mentor, Lake, Ohio
- She died 21 December 1892 in Mentor, Lake, Ohio
Information I'm seeking:
- Confirmation of Simeon's birthplace. Census records indicate his parents may have lived in Cayuga County, New York in 1830 and 1840. Many census enumerations for his children show Connecticut as his birthplace and the 1850 census shows Massachusetts.
- Date and location of Eliza's birth. I've calculated her birth date to January, 1815 based on information in her obituary.
- Information on Eliza's parents. I have no information on them.
- Confirmation of the location of Simeon and Eliza's marriage.
- Location and date of Elliza's burial. She is not listed in current Lake County, Ohio cemetery transcriptions.
- Information on daughter Charlotte's first marriage to include her husband's name (surname was Mitchell), date and location of his birth and death, and date and location of the marriage.
- Birth and death information for their son, Charles H. Benedict. He appears in the 1850 census, which shows him to be a year old and born in New York. He does not appear in the 1855 New York state census.
