Ray L. Young
PAINESVILLE — Ray L. Young Sr., 84, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at the Homestead Two Nursing Home, Painesville.
He was born Feb 5, 1918, in Chardon, the son of Lloyd and Carrie (Hathaway) Young.
He worked as a truck driver for the former Cricket Coal Co., Chardon, and the Telling Belle Vernon Milk Co. Novelty. He also worked for the Thayer Milk Co., and as a pressman for the former Ohio Rubber Co., Willoughby, for 20 years. He also worked at the SAS Rubber Co., Painesville, for two years, and at IRC Fibers Corp., Painesville.
Mr. Young served with the Fifth Army, 473rd Infantry Division during World War II, serving in the European Theater for 30 months, and in Italy and Algeria.
He was an avid pinochle player, and enjoyed gardening and farming.
Survivors include five daughters, Jean Lohiser of Concord Township, Linda Glanzer of Madison, Sharon "Patty" Stephens of Painesville, Jeannette Muzum of Mentor, and Shirley Anderson of Cleveland; two sons, Maurice of Bristolville, and Ray L. Jr., of Painesville; a half-brother, Chester of Ashtabula; 22 grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his fourth wife, Helen; his fifth wife, Odalite; his sixth wife, Julia; a brother, William; and a half-brother, Roderick.
Service is 4 p.m. Thursday at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, 667 Mentor Ave., Painesville, with the Rev. Gerald D. Kalb of the Painesville United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Painesville.
Calling hours are fromk 3 p.m. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
