Arlene J. (Hendershot) Pettit
Funeral services for Arlene J. (Hendershot) Pettit, 90, of Chardon, a homemaker, will be 8 p.m. Friday at the Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., (Rt. 44, 500 ft. south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square), in Chardon.
Mrs. Pettit died March 2, 2004, at Blossom Hill Nursing Home, in Huntsburg Township.
Born June 5, 1913, in Chardon, she was raised in Chardon, moved to Zephyrhills, Fla., and Painesville before moving back to Chardon six years ago.
She was a 1931 graduate of Chardon High School. Mrs. Pettit was a member of Pilgrim Christian Church in Chardon, former member of First Christian Church of Zephyrhills, Fla., and the Church of Christ in Painesville for 37 years. She enjoyed playing bingo, and crocheting, but the most important things in her life were spending time with her family, boating, jet skiing at Roaming Shores in Ashtabula, visiting Kitty Hawk, N.C., and attending sporting events of her great-great-nieces. She was also a volunteer at the Geauga Senior Center, participating in their Senior Olympics program.
Survivors are her daughter, Karen Jo Pallock of Florida; granddaughter, Kimberly Jo King of Florida; great-grandsons, Louis and Justice King; nieces, Beverly Adams of Chardon, and Bonnie (Floyd) Leyde of Mesopotamia; nephew, Leonard Murray of Ocala, Fla.; and many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Her first husband, Sherman Hartson, whom she married in 1935, died in 1965; and second husband, Clarence Pettit, whom she married in 1969, died in 1990. Her daughter, Donna Malene Hartson; parents, Leonard Sheldon and Hersey Belle (Adams) Hendershot; sister, Lenna Murray; and brother, William Hendershot, are also deceased.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Pastor Robert D. Penrod of Pilgrim Christian Church will officiate the services. Private burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Painesville.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Geauga Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Dr., Chardon 44024.
