Walter G. Hughes
Memorial services for Walter Hughes, 83, of Painesville, a retired lab supervisor, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Church of Christ, 422 Mentor Ave., Painesville.
Mr. Hughes died Oct. 6, 2004, at his home.
He was born Dec. 17, 1920, in Painesville.
He was a member of First Church of Christ of Painesville where he was very active. He loved gardening, fishing and giving away what he grew in his garden. He loved his family and never knew a stranger. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
Mr. Hughes retired in 1982 as a lab supervisor for Fasson Products, after 28 years of service.
Survivors are his wife, Marian (Smith) Hughes, whom he married June 11, 1941; sons, Gary (Lindsay) Hughes of Lincoln, Ill. and David (Dawn) Hughes of Peru, Ind.; grandchildren, David (Sunday) Hughes II, John (Lea) Hughes, Michael (Tara) Hughes, Amy (Jeff) Hyde, Kesha (Patrick) Kelly and Nathan (Danielle) Hughes; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Irene (Fleming) Hughes; and brother, Elmer Hughes.
There will be no calling hours.
Roy Williams of Fowler Mills Christian Church will officiate at services.
The family suggests contributions to the Memorial Fund of First Church of Christ, or to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 5786 Heisley Road, Mentor 44060.
