Rick Romig's Genealogy Project

Dedication

This site is dedicated to the loving memory of my mother, Roberta Frances Warren Romig (1933-2008). As with nearly every other worthwhile endeavor I've undertaken, she was always there for me with encouragement, counsel, and valuable insight. I miss her greatly.

I also dedicate my genealogical efforts to the loving memory of my grandparents, particularly my paternal grandmother, Sophie Putka Romig. While I have deep affection for all of my grandparents, she was the last of them to leave this world, the last of her generation. It was with her passing that I realized that an entire generation was gone forever. It occurred to me that while I had known my grandparents all of my life, I didn't really know very much about them and their lives. I knew even less about those who came before them, only a few handed down stories. In that way, she inspired me to take on the task of finding my roots.

This work is also dedicated to the memory of all my ancestors whose lives I am only beginning to know and appreciate. Among my ancestors I have found colonists, pioneers, farmers, laborers, colonial governors, founders of towns, coopers, carpenters, and patriots. They were Puritans, Episcopalians, Baptists, Methodists, Lutherans, Catholics, Jehovah's Witnesses, and other faiths. They endured ocean crossings, epidemics, pandemics, severe weather, the loss of loved ones, wars, and other hardships, but they persevered. They all contributed, in some small way, to history so their lives were not insignificant. I believe that they were people worth knowing, even if I can only know them through the records they left behind.

I am a father and grandfather, an ancestor to two generations, I want to leave my descendants a legacy of knowledge so they can know their heritage and their history. I also dedicate this work to my grandchildren, Jacob, Benjamin, Abigail, and Nicholas as well as their (future) descendants. I hope my research will continue for many generations after I'm gone.
